# Troubleshooting EMPF Preview

## Common problems

- **Still seeing generic icons** — refresh or clear the Windows thumbnail cache; confirm the install completed.
- **Thumbnails appear after copying files but not in the original folder** — usually a cached-thumbnail or OneDrive placeholder issue.
- **OneDrive Desktop files show no thumbnails** — Files On-Demand placeholders must be available locally first.
- **SmartScreen / Unknown Publisher warnings** — expected while the installer is unsigned; verify the SHA256 from https://empfpreview.com/download/ before proceeding.
- **Antivirus quarantined the installer** — restore and whitelist after verifying the hash.
- **Network folders** — thumbnail behavior on network shares is limited by Windows; prefer local folders.
- **Corporate PCs** — installation may require IT approval (unsigned installer, admin rights).
- **Seer preview not working** — re-register the plugin and clear Seer's cache; see https://empfpreview.com/docs/seer/
