eufyMake EMPF thumbnails in Explorer
EMPF Preview includes a Windows thumbnail provider for local eufyMake .empf files.
This guide is for the common problem behind searches such as eufyMake thumbnail preview, EMPF thumbnail, .empf preview and generic project icons in Windows Explorer.
Requirements
- EMPF Preview installed on a supported Windows PC.
- Local
.empffiles available in a normal folder. - Windows Explorer set to Large icons or Extra large icons.
How it works
When Windows Explorer needs a thumbnail, it asks the EMPF Preview thumbnail provider to render a preview image. EMPF Preview renders a preview and Windows caches it.
Why thumbnails sometimes appear slowly
Windows caches thumbnails aggressively. If Windows already cached a generic icon, it may not request a new thumbnail immediately.
Best folder setup
For the most reliable thumbnails, keep active .empf files in a normal local folder, for example:
C:\Users\YourName\Documents\eufyMake Projects
Avoid testing first with cloud-only OneDrive files, network drives or folders where Windows has already cached old generic icons.
Steps to refresh thumbnails
- Switch to Large icons.
- Close and reopen the folder.
- Copy one
.empffile to a new local test folder. - Restart Explorer or sign out and back in.
- Reinstall the current EMPF Preview setup.
- Contact support with version, Windows version, file location and screenshot.
Verify
Copy one known .empf file to a new local test folder and switch Explorer to Large icons. If that file renders but the original folder does not, the original folder is likely affected by Windows thumbnail cache behavior.
Common problems
Cloud-only OneDrive files, network folders, stale Explorer cache and managed PCs can all prevent or delay thumbnail rendering.
OneDrive note
Files stored in OneDrive with Files On-Demand may behave differently because they can be cloud-backed reparse points. For reliable thumbnails, test with a normal local folder or files marked as always available offline.
Render size
The Explorer thumbnail provider renders up to 1024 px, balancing clarity with Explorer cache performance.
