Troubleshooting
Use these checks for common EMPF Preview, Windows Explorer and Seer plugin issues.
Requirements before troubleshooting
- Use a supported 64-bit Windows PC.
- Test with a local
.empffile first. - Confirm the current EMPF Preview version from the installer details page.
Verify first
Copy one .empf file to a new local folder, switch Explorer to Large icons or Extra large icons, and wait briefly for Windows to request thumbnails.
Common problems
I still see generic icons
Try switching Explorer to Large icons or Extra large icons. Windows may still be using an older thumbnail cache.
Thumbnails work after copying files, but not in the original folder
Windows may have cached the generic icon for the original file. Copying creates a new file identity, so Explorer requests a fresh thumbnail.
OneDrive Desktop files do not show thumbnails
OneDrive Files On-Demand can interfere with Explorer thumbnail generation. Try copying the file to a normal local folder.
Windows shows SmartScreen or Unknown Publisher
This release is not code-signed yet. Check the filename and SHA256 on the download page before installing.
Antivirus quarantined the installer
Because EMPF Preview is a new low-volume Windows utility that registers Explorer integration, some security tools may be cautious. Do not bypass security software on managed work PCs. Contact support and include the detection name.
Network folders
Explorer thumbnail behavior can differ on NAS, SMB shares or corporate network drives. Test with a normal local folder first.
Corporate PCs
Managed PCs may block unsigned installers, shell extensions or Explorer thumbnail providers. EMPF Preview is currently intended for personal or self-managed Windows PCs.
Seer preview does not appear or update
First confirm that the EMPF Preview plugin has been added in Seer. If setup is correct but the preview is stale, Seer may be caching generated HTML previews. Clear the Seer cache or test with a renamed copy.
eufyMake Studio, account or printer issues
EMPF Preview only handles local .empf preview, thumbnails and export. For eufyMake Studio downloads, account login, printer connection, cloud or device issues, use the official eufyMake Studio software page or eufyMake support.
Where are logs stored?
Logs are stored under:

Support tip
When reporting an issue, include the EMPF Preview version, Windows version, whether the file is local or OneDrive-backed, and a screenshot if possible.
